昔懐かしい街並みが残る城下町西舞鶴は、“銭湯のまち”です。日本海に面した舞鶴は東西に分かれています。東舞鶴はかつて軍港が置かれ、今も海上自衛隊が駐屯する港町です。一方の西舞鶴は田辺城の城下町で、「古民家の宿 宰嘉庵」や舞鶴に残る銭湯ははこちらにあります。昔懐かしい街並みが残る西舞鶴は、商店街でひときわ目を引くハイカラな外観の登録有形文化財「若の湯」に加え、「日本のベネチア」とも呼ばれる漁師町・吉原入江に佇む「日の出湯」がある“銭湯のまち”です。そんな銭湯のまちにある「古民家の宿 宰嘉庵」は、築130年あまりの町屋です。その昔、表には番台を置き、長く商いをしていました。裏には高野川から水路が引かれ、日本海に開かれた港の入り口として有りました。 時は流れ、タバコ屋として今日にその姿を残します。家の中と外をつなぐ窓口であるタバコケース。そして、この町屋を現代へと伝えたタバコケースは「宰嘉庵」を特徴付けるモチーフとして愛されています。Castle town Nishi Maizuru where old townscape remains is also “town of public bath”.A vintage Japanese-style house built in Meiji Era 130 years ago.
